Personal and unbiased review. Our child got into our private school of choice, without any help from Key, and now I feel comfortable sharing my feelings regarding this place. I do not recommend it.

We learned about these types of companies from the private school applications, where some ask a question at the bottom of whether a third party company was involved in the application. I didn't realize such services exist. Indeed, Key caters to a specific population, that perhaps do not know much about Canada, Vancouver or speaking English, but are happy to pay to get their child into their perceived private school of choice. I met people at Key (who were kind and being honest), that said they "wrote the essays for the application".

This place is founded by a private school graduate, who I guess decided to make a business on exploiting that specific population who can pay for private school but may not understand how to fill applications, or speak english.

I found Key to be very passive, and not focused on my child at all.

We had specific goals for our child- to give her the skills and experience to excel at private school assessments, which are brief and obviously important to your child's success. We wanted our daughter to speak like she would at home, assertive, confidently.
This sounded exactly what their "unlock your soft skills" class should have been, and how it was described to us.

For one class I waited in the seating area and peeked in. The students were just doing individual play. There did not appear to be any focus on basics, like answering politely, making eye contact, speaking well (what they described as soft skills).

We only attended a couple of classes and stopped going. We didn't even bother them for a refund as I'm sure there are none, given their business model.

After one class, the instructor told me my 4 year old was having trouble with addition. She showed me a work sheet where there were arithmetic ( like 5 + 4 = ____). Not even like 5 applies and 4 apples makes how many?

I have no idea where they base their curriculum from. This place seems like an absolute money grab.

Personally, seeing Key and what services they offer left a very sour taste in my mouth. At their info session, they talk about how they can email the right person at the right time, or follow up on clients behalf. Of course, their full service is them writing an entire application. I was particularly scared when the owner said in one session, that Key is different to other such "education" services one might have heard of, in that they don't ask for donations for the schools for example.

Again, this paints a picture that if you are rich enough, and don't speak English (maybe this is actually helpful- based on the client examples they provide in their info session), then you pay Key, and they will mold your kid to speak proper English, and write a proper essay for you (possible side donations, I don't know)- and boom, your kid can get into a top school.

Again, for their courses "unlock your soft skills" it was completely irrelevant, expensive, weak resources, not impressive teachers, and doesn't seem pertinent to the assessment process at all.

My final point is that I called Key to speak with Ben when we had three offers, to get his opinion on the schools. The least he could do is give me 5 minutes of his time after paying for courses we didn't even use or bother requesting a refund. His secretary told me he was busy and would call me back shortly. Took my number. No call back
Then at the end of the day, I get a email saying that I had called to inquire about classes and they sent their price list and class offerings. Zero attention to detail. Completely unimpressed with Key, and it really paints the picture that private school admissions probably have a lot of messy things happening in the background from these types of companies looking to profit off of certain types of parents.

My experience with KEY has been nothing short of amazing. They spent alot of time to understand our child and our family before making recommendations. The consultants were highly knowledgeable about child development and different private schools, and able to answer many of our questions. The whole process with school selection/application was thoughtful, intelligent, and strategic. Suggestions and recommendations were always clearly explained, and delivered in a professional and timely manner. KEY also provided classes for my child, which were well structured and suitable for his age and developmental stage. My child loved KEY's classes.
